LUDENS LOUNGE

Personal research project

The 'Ludens Lounge' was a piece I developed as part of a masters research project investigating the benefits of play as a means of designing performance.

It was designed as an interactive space/workshop. Participants where asked to engage in two stages of play. Firstly a state of 'open play', without order, during which they would construct tactic knowledge utilising the apparatus within the space. Then during a secondary stage of play the participants would have to play as a means of fulfilling a design brief.

The space its self was influenced primarily by the writing of play theorists, Johan Huizinga, Roger Callois and Brian Sutton Smith. It consisted of multiple workstations offering different possibilities of interactions and play.
